A revamped Spa Castle near Dallas leans into hydrotherapy and sauna culture as Texans embrace communal, all-day wellness.
The sprawling, all-day bathhouse — long a fixture of Korean wellness culture — is finding a devoted audience in Texas, and one of the state's best-known destinations just doubled down on the trend.
Spa Castle Texas, in Carrollton just north of Dallas, relaunched this summer after a major renovation aimed at expanding its hydrotherapy, sauna and spa offerings. Its pools and saunas feature custom elements designed in-house, built with specialized equipment imported from Korea, Japan, Germany and other countries known for their bathing and wellness traditions.
Communal by design
The appeal is a different kind of self-care: a place to spend hours soaking, sweating and unwinding rather than booking a single appointment. That communal, unhurried model has been gaining ground across Texas cities, where bathhouses, cold plunges and contrast therapy have jumped from athlete-recovery rooms to weekend social ritual.
For a state enduring another triple-digit summer, the promise of a cool soak and a long sweat is an easy sell.
