Texans Snap Winless Start With 26-3 Rout of the Titans
C.J. Stroud ran for a touchdown and threw for another as Houston's defense sacked Tennessee four times in Nashville.
The Houston Texans got their first win of the season on Sunday, Oct. 11, beating the Tennessee Titans 26-3 in Nashville.
C.J. Stroud threw for 261 yards and a touchdown and ran for another on a 2-yard keeper, per the Associated Press. His 9-yard scoring pass to Jaylin Noel opened the fourth quarter, and kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn added four field goals. Houston improved to 1-4; Tennessee fell to 0-5, its sixth straight loss overall.
A middle-quarters squeeze
Houston led 12-3 at halftime, then outscored Tennessee 16-0 across the middle quarters and outgained the Titans 225-49 in that stretch. A 17-play, 8-minute-23-second third-quarter drive, including a 23-yard sideline catch by Kayshon Boutte on third-and-11, effectively ended the game. Will Anderson Jr. had three of Houston's four sacks, Jalen Pitre recovered a fumble and Jake Hansen intercepted Cam Ward. Tennessee totaled just 187 yards, its season low.
The Texans lost running back David Montgomery to a groin injury in the second quarter. Houston next headed to London to face Jacksonville.
