The San Antonio Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks 122-106 on Saturday, Oct. 24, at American Airlines Center, spoiling Dallas's home opener and notching their first victory of the season.

Victor Wembanyama scored 23 points with seven rebounds and four blocks. Dylan Harper added 22, and De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle each had 19. For Dallas, Sergio de Larrea scored 21 off the bench, hitting 3 of 4 from three, and P.J. Washington had 12. The Mavericks played without Cooper Flagg, who the team said had a mild sprain of his left shoulder, and Kyrie Irving, who sat for rest.

Swings and a franchise mark

The Spurs squandered a 14-point third-quarter lead, then opened the fourth with a 17-5 run to take control. San Antonio grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and won second-chance points 25-10. Dallas set a franchise play-by-play-era record with 46 first-half points in the paint, but its five starters combined for just 50.

The Mavericks next visited Miami, while the Spurs returned home to host Sacramento.
